Grace
Agricultural extension officer
Papua New Guinea
“I am a ‘land woman’ and work as an Agricultural Extension Officer for the Central Provincial Government. I will work with Kyeema to set up my own breeding flock at home in Param Village in Raba Raba District, Milne Bay Province.”
Rural women in Papua New Guinea represent the backbone of many communities. However, they continue to face obstacles that prevent them from reaching their potential. Kyeema and our community partners believe that a more readily available local breed village chicken could be a powerful and sustainable means of supporting female economic and social empowerment and improved livelihoods in communities generally. Further impacts could include improved child and household nutrition from the protein chicken provides them and through the sale and consumption of eggs. This is crucial in places like PNG where child stunting rates are higher due to high levels of protein insufficiencies.
Grace is leading change in her community and is passionate about promoting tangible outcomes for them.
