Poultry Disease Information
Following are links to some useful online resources outlining important diseases impacting on poultry production.
Handbook of Poultry Diseases Important in Africa
Designed as a reference for field veterinarians in Africa, this handbook was developed by the veterinary medicine departments of universities in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and California. It is very comprehensive and outlines clinical signs and lesions, differential diagnoses, etiological agent and transmission, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. There are some useful diagrams and summary tables, however there are no photographs included.
FAO Picture Book of Infectious Poultry Diseases
Produced by the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Disease (ECTAD) South Africa team, this was compiled as a training tool for extension personnel involved in avian disease awareness work, and specifically for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) detection, surveillance and reporting programs. There are clear and comprehensive pictures of pathological lesions and clinical signs by disease.
An Intervet publication, this online book is a comprehensive guide to poultry diseases. It is divided into sections by type of disease – infectious respiratory, neoplastic, viral, bacterial, parasitic, and diseases of deficiency. Also available on slideshare.
This contains a comprehensive list (with accompanying descriptions) of poultry diseases. Some disease information is more detailed than others. It is a good site to visit for a quick understanding of any poultry disease you seek to investigate.
